Some facts about the 4L Trophy 2012
One quick article before the departure!
The 4L Trophy is a student car raid organised each year in Morocco. Each 2 people crew must use a Renault 4 (also called "4L"), and travel from France throught Spain down to Morocco. This year, the planning is as following;
15th & 16th of February 2012 Two days at the Futuroscope (Poitiers) for the technical and administrative checkings, the "departure village" is opened two days to allow more than 1000 cars to check in! We will go there Wednesday the 15th at 8am, meaning departure at 3am from Normandy!
17th of February 2012 Camp and briefing at Algeciras, Southern Spain, just before taking the ferry to Tanger, Morocco.
18th & 19th Février 2012 Ferry accross the Gibraltar strait!
20th - 24th of February 2012 6 sand and rocks tracks accross the Moroccan deep south. Get your cars ready!
24th of February 2012 Finish line at Marakech
25th of February 2012 Rest and tourism day and award ceremony.
26th of February 2012 Ferry crossing and back home...
Some particularities about the Trophy:
Created 14 years ago, the Trophy was first an event gathering no more than 50 crews, and now 1394 crews are engaged in the adventure! There is a big bonus of such an event: what you can carry with you. For several editions, "Enfants du Désert" (http://enfantsdudesert.org/) has been a partner of the 4L Trophy, but not a sponsor of course. From then, the event was given a "humanitarian" aspect, in addition to the already existing "solidarity", "sport", "action", "share". Indeed, every crew shall take in its Renault 50kg of humanitarian aid for the South Maroccain children, such as school material, clothes, but not only! Some projects also brought useful things for the population there: solar water pumps, solar panels, wheel chairs, etc. Last year, 82 tons of aid was brought to the region! This year, the humanitarian action is remade: each crew shall give at least 20€ to the associations, plus bring a full filled school bag. Of course, all this gives a good image and a good reputation to this amazing and friendly raid, to the crews, the media, and also the sponsors of the event!
